What is Direct Primary Care (DPC)?

More and more patients are becoming curious about Direct Primary Care (DPC). Our DPC division offers accessible healthcare to patients across the Pittsburgh region, redefining the way medicine is practiced. We strive to provide the highest level of care while nurturing trusted relationships with our patients.

Still, many individuals may not have a clear understanding of what Direct Primary Care (DPC) actually is. It's a membership-based healthcare model that's been growing in popularity across the United States for over a decade. DPC is all about bridging the gap for those who find traditional healthcare unaffordable, inaccessible, and often disjointed.

In the world of DPC, the way healthcare used to be and the way it should be converge, offering a more patient-centered and equitable approach to medical care. DPC focuses on eliminating the complexities imposed by insurance companies and their rigid requirements. It grants patients access to thorough, affordable, and unhurried care.

Tailored care with DPC

With DPC, our practitioners have the opportunity to spend quality time understanding every patient’s unique medical needs. Together, we develop a personalized treatment plan that puts your health first. This patient-centric approach is at the core of Direct Primary Care, reimagining the doctor-patient relationship and making healthcare more accessible and transparent.

BODY by AIM360 invites you to explore Direct Primary Care and experience a better approach to healthcare. Trust, affordability, and personalized care have always been of the utmost importance, and DPC delivers on all of these metrics with high-quality, accessible medical services.

Is there a difference between Direct Primary Care and Concierge Medicine?

Yes. DPC and Concierge care are often confused and thought to be the same thing.

  • DPC contracts are typically on a month-to-month basis with no long-term commitments, while concierge practices typically charge an annual fee (meaning the contract is valid for an entire year) and may not be canceled early.
  • Concierge medicine fees are higher and more expensive than DPC membership costs
  • DPC does not bill insurance, whereas concierge medicine does. In turn, DPC is not hindered by the constraints of insurance companies.

What makes Direct Primary Care different at Body by AIM360 versus other DPC practices?

Here at Body by AIM360, we take an integrative approach to your personal care needs. That means we look at the patient as a whole and incorporate medical and also natural treatment options into your care plan. We live in a world where medication tends to be the gold standard answer to a lot of health problems. Body by AIM360 likes to take a closer look, and we can often avoid medications for certain health issues by treating the underlying problem in a more natural way. If medication is warranted, our goal is always to do our best to lower or eliminate medication(s) over time. More importantly, we want you to play an active role in the decisions revolving around your care. We believe that we provide a unique environment that allows our patients to receive the type of primary care they are not getting in traditional settings.

Why would I pay for this membership instead of just going to see my regular PCP?

If you have a primary care practitioner that you love and you are happy with the quality of care that they provide, this is great and we are so happy to hear this! An article in the National Library of Medicine noted that the average appointment with a practitioner lasted 17.4 minutes. For someone with more than one medical issue to discuss at a visit, this is hardly enough time to thoroughly discuss one problem, let alone multiple issues or very complex health problems. We have decided to offer primary care services under the Direct Primary Care model in response to our patients and the needs that they say are not being met in traditional primary care settings. This type of primary care is for those patients that are looking for a type of care that is extremely thorough and office visits that are not rushed. At Body by AIM360, we want to create a primary care setting where exceptional quality care can be provided. We want our patients to leave their appointment feeling like they have been heard and also feeling that they are receiving the care that they deserve. Do you accept insurance?

By eliminating health insurance companies from the equation, we are able to provide more thorough and unrestricted care to our patients. In doing so, this actually saves you money in the long run. With DPC, you have increased access to a healthcare provider, which leads to less office visits, urgent care or ER visits - less copays! Furthermore, with the amazing quality of care we provide to you along with easier access to it, you may want to consider cutting back on your insurance premiums!

Will I still need insurance?

Yes. Most patients that take advantage of the Direct Primary Care model choose a lower premium insurance plan that has them covered in the event of a more expensive and often unexpected medical issue, such as surgery. We encourage all patients to research these options and decide what is best for your personal needs.

Can I still become a Direct Primary Care patient if I have Medicare?

Yes. You will be required to sign a waiver form that states that neither you as the patient, or us as the practice, will bill Medicare for any services provided in our office. Your Medicare benefits may still be used for other services provided outside of our practice setting. Medicare will, however, cover costs such as labs, diagnostic testing, medications, or hospitalizations recommended by our practice.

Can I use my HSA or FSA account to cover DPC membership fees?

We recommend that you check with your Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA) company to determine if the DPC membership fee is reimbursable under these types of accounts.

What does the membership fee cover?

The membership fee covers the thorough care that we provide without any copays for these office visits. The fee includes items such as annual physicals, point-of-care testing done in the office setting, health maintenance and acute illness management. The membership fee also covers direct communication with a health practitioner.

What medical issues do you treat?

We treat a wide range of medical concerns. The services range from acute illnesses such as rashes, sore throats and urinary symptoms to management of chronic diseases such as diabetes and high blood pressure.

What if I want to cancel my membership?

You may cancel your membership at any time with 30 days written notice. The terms of membership termination will be detailed in your membership agreement.
